I will be working at MiVillage part time with a goal of giving the students a place where they make some outstanding childhood memories. I have been a Holliston resident for more than 20 years now and have always been involved in the community. I found myself in childcare almost by accident. I had three young children and became a single mom; I made the best choice for them and opened my own home-based day care. I had the privilege of playing with them all day and fulling their days with positive memories and friendships from the other children that attended. My three children are all now adults, and they still have best friends that they grew up with in our home. Plan achieved!!
As my children grew older it was time to change the direction and focus of my world; I followed my childhood dream of becoming a fire fighter. I started in Holliston Fire Department as an EMT/fire fighter. I was hired a few years ago as a Career Firefighter for the Town of Maynard. I worked hard, went back to college for my second bachelor’s degree and have attended countless trainings at the Massachusetts Fire Academy as well as the National Fire Academy. I now have been promoted and am honored to be the Captain of the department.
My daughter Tyler is the site coordinator at MiVillage and when she presented me with the opportunity to come back to childcare I jumped at the idea. I work 24-hour shifts at the fire department, and she is willing to place me in some of the spots that fit with my schedule. As a mom, I couldn’t be happier to spend my days off watching her excel with MiVillage and enjoy all the joy from that children bring.
I spend any and all extra time I have trying to stay in shape, it is very important as a fire fighter to always be fire fit. I love my Peloton, spend a crazy amount of times and miles on the bike path, running, walking or biking and somehow fill in some weight training as well. I have run over 15 marathons and although I always say as I finish, “that will be the last one”, I know I have few more in me. Anytime I can be outside and enjoy, I jump at the opportunity.
