Sue McGee

Hello, my name is Sue McGee. I am so happy to be here at MiVillage! My family moved to Holliston when I was 4 years old. I loved growing up in Holliston and many of my friends and classmates have remained in the area. In fact, one opened a dojo here in town and when my children and I moved back to Holliston in 2003 I enrolled them in Next Generation Martial Arts. After watching in the wings and seeing how much positive influence the dojo had on my kids, I also enrolled in classes. I earned a 1st degree green belt and enjoyed competing in tournaments. Being a part of the dojo family has been one of the most positive and enriching choices I made as a parent and for myself. From the moment Sensei Phillip told me about the plans to open Mivillage, I knew wanted to be involved!
Professionally, I hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and my first career was in business finance. When my kids were still in grade school I decided to go back to school and completed the Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure program at Framingham State in 2010. I had been a substitute teacher and worked in an after-school program and knew that working with kids would be a job that I love. To me every experience is an opportunity to learn and passing on a love of learning to my students is the goal I aspire to every day. Since then I have worked as a para, a math tutor, and two long-term substitute positions (all in Holliston) before becoming a classroom teacher at Miller Elementary. In the ten plus years I have worked in the Holliston School District I have met so many amazing people, both students and adults. I have two classes left to complete my Masters in Elementary Education and while at FSU have been inducted into the academic honor societies of Alpha Upsilon Alpha and Kappa Delta Pi.
Also, I have two wonderful children. My daughter Shelby will be a senior at UMass Amherst in the fall and my son Tyler is currently a part of the CityYear organization and will attend MCLU in the fall. Both my children also attended Holliston schools and earned their 1st degree green belts at NGMA. I have been a coach for their soccer, basketball and cheer teams, a chaperone on the Washington DC trip and love working with children of all ages. Watching them make new discoveries, learn about who they are and the world around them is such a rewarding experience. I am very proud to be here and look forward to getting to know your children.
